I was playing around with creating a custom color wheel/ color palette and came across this little plug-in for Photoshop.

Anyone else using this?

Tools team at work built us a painter style color wheel for PS, also points out the color compliment and triadics in real time...good stuff, adobe definitely should address this soon.

Does anyone know if there is a way to map the color picker to a hotkey? It's pretty much the only thing stopping me from painting in full screen mode all the time.

Yes and no. I've found no way to create a hotkey within photoshop, but I've found a workaround. Look up a program called AutoHotKey. It has instructions on how to set it up, but basically you program a key combination or mouse button to perform a certain task (very simple cut-and-pasty type programming, don't worry). You use this feature to make a particular key (I use the middle mouse button) to jump your cursor to a particular coordinate on your screen-- namely, where your toolbox palette is. This does require that you have it open, but it can streamline your workflow a little by using a button on your wacom pen instead of going across the screen all the time.

I'm not sure if this sounds to complicated. I found how to do this by searching online, but if you can't find clearer directions let me know. It's been a while since I've set it up myself. Once you've got it set up, though, it makes color picking a piece of cake.

Damn... pcs only.

I actually looked into a similar technique a while ago that maps a key to click a specific coordinate on your screen but it also turned out to be windows only. But in any case both solutions require your toolbars to be open so they're still not as nice as keyboard shortcut when you're painting full screen. Thanks though.

I really dont understsand why Photoshop doesn't have this option...

you can float the color picker, undocked, where you want it on your screen. then use the default hotkey (or one you assign) to show it off and on. i believe it's f6. you can change that in your keyboard shortcuts.

this is the default color palette and not the jsx script.

you can also just hit tab to show all the palettes, then hit it again to hide them if you want to paint full screen on a single display.

though i never got used to working like that and found it easier to just buy a cheap palette monitor from dell for a hundred bucks or so.

damn. i just noticed it doesn't update itself when you use the eye dropper to pick a color from the painting.

ok. kinda lame, but it does work:

In CS4, if you dock items together like i have in the original picture I posted (the HSB slider and ColorPicker together) when you press the hotkey for one, it will open whatever is docked to it.

So if you dock the HSB slider to the new ColorPicker plugin press F6 to pull them both up.
**When you do this the ColorPicker will refresh to the latest sampled color**

kinda lame for me since I like to just keep it open, but if you keep it hidden and then just toggle it open you should have no problem.

Awesome, works perfectly!

*edit* well, not quite... the docking trick still doesn't work full screen. But having the color picker assigned to a hotkey is nice :)

***Updated again to version version 1.4***

Now updates the color swatches when you 'slide' the color picker (a previous bug) and now allows you to hide the numerical adjustments.

loving this thing.

it's so buggy that I just can't use it =\ alot of times it wont update itself (The hue slider will be in blue, but it's still showing me a red scale), or I'll be sliding it without affecting the main color. :\

The new Color Wheel is out! A lot of improvements, speed-ups, and now it can stay on the screen in compact mode - with only two colors visible and expands immediately when mouse is over it.
